3 Extreme Activities in Medellin, Colombia

Paragliding

As if Medellin wasn’t beautiful enough, imagine seeing it from thousands of feet above.  Glide through the Andes Mountains and feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins.  For those of you who have never been paragliding, it’s an extreme sport that consists of flying parachutes that allow you to glide through the air.

With your instructor, you’ll simply run down a hill, lift your legs, and allow the wind to take you.  As if that’s not enough, you can ask your instructor if you can control the steering, which adds an extra layer of fun to the experience.

What to wear paragliding: In general, the higher you are, the colder it is.  That’s why you should wear something that’s comfortable and keeps you warm.  For many, this is jeans and a long sleeve shirt or athletic wear.  It’s also recommended to wear closed-toe shoes so that you don’t have to worry about them falling off during the excursion.  Since the rain in Medellin is unpredictable, don’t forget to bring a light rain jacket.

How much does paragliding cost: In Medellin, paragliding tours cost $190 per person.  Tours usually last around 5 hours and include transportation and a certified instructor and equipment.

ATV Tour

Why walk when you can have more fun riding through Antioquia’s beautiful countryside?  This gives you the opportunity to escape the city and see the other side of Medellin.  These all-terrain vehicles are meant for any type of landscape, meaning you and your tour guide can go off-road and into new and exciting territories.

What to wear ATV riding: Similar to paragliding, you should bring comfortable clothes, closed-toes shoes, and a rain jacket.  Remember that you’ll be exploring different types of terrain, so wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

How much is an atv tour: You should expect to pay around $100 dollars for an ATV tour.  Tours usually last an hour up to an hour and a half and include transportation, helmets, ATVs, and a tour guide.

Rafting

When people think of Medellin, many people think of a big city – which is absolutely true.  That said, there are a lot of nature activities that you can take part in, such as white water rafting.  This allows you to visit remote areas that many visitors and locals alike have never explored.  There are different levels of rafting that you choose from so that you can find a tour that you’re comfortable with.

What to wear white water rafting: Athletic clothes or comfortable clothes that allow you to raft without a problem are ideal.  Since the water will be splashing into the raft, it’s recommended that you wear material that will dry fast for the best comfort.  If you have water shoes, even better.

How much is rafting: Rafting tours in medellin cost $195 per person.  It’s an 8-hour tour that includes transportation, rafting equipment, and a river guide.
