Best Time of the Year to Visit Medellin

Dry Season

Medellin is known as the “city of eternal spring.” So it’s easy to say that the amazing weather is one of the reasons that this city is so great.  That being said, it’s no secret that Medellin gets a decent amount of rain.  After all, Medellin technically has a tropical rainforest climate.  If you’re interested in going during the dry season, then you should go anytime between December and February.  To get a better idea of the average rainfall per month, check out the graph below.

Holiday Season

You may not get a white Christmas, but your whole trip will be filled with vibrant lights.  All you have to do is walk outside and you’ll be filled with the holiday spirit.  In fact, there are even light festivals that you can go to, such as the light display at Parques del Rio.  Aside from the great lights, you’ll get to enjoy some of the traditional food that is served during the holidays, such as buñuelos, natilla, and tamales.

Another fun tradition that you’ll discover is dia de las velitas, otherwise known as candle day.  On December 7th, friends and family come together and fill the streets with candles and music.  Whether you want to participate or just walk around with a buñuelo in hand, it’s an amazing experience.  Overall, December is filled with great food, amazing lights, and even better parties.

Best Deals

The dry season and the holiday season are great times to come, but we should mention that it’s usually more expensive during those seasons.  This means that if you’re trying to save a little money, it’s actually better to come during the rainy season, which is April through May and September through November.  For those of you that feel discouraged by coming during this time, don’t!  Although this is the rainy season, the rain doesn’t last all day.  In fact, it usually only rains for a couple of hours max in the afternoon.  This means all you have to do is pack a rain jacket and enjoy the cheaper flights and accommodation.

If we’re being honest, there’s no wrong time to visit Medellin.  Having said that, the best time to visit Medellin also depends on your personal preferences.  Whether you’re coming for the lights or great deals, there’s a world of culture and amazing experiences waiting for you.
